FIFA World Cup Fanzone

The Fan Zone in the World
For the 2026 World Cup, hosted thousands of miles away in North America, Egypt's New Capital became the place the tournament came home to. At its centre was the largest fanz zone in the world, recreating the atmosphere of a stadium for the fans who could not travel to follow their teams in person.
Beyond the football, across the whole month and across several events, with high-profile performances, brand activations and live entertainment around the matches, and on its busiest days it brought as many as 50,000 fans together in a single place.
The KNOT Technologies Impact
At a fan zone of this scale, KNOT tackled the hardest problem first: demand far outstripped the space available. Rather than a first-come scramble that rewards whoever refreshes fastest, KNOT built a ballot system that gave every fan an equal, transparent chance of a place. Fans registered their interest, places were allocated at random, and the crowd inside was the result of a level playing field rather than a rush.
Getting that crowd through the gates was its own challenge. KNOT’s system allowed the on ground teams to handle entry in real time, moving tens of thousands of fans into the fan zone quickly and securely and verifying every place as people arrived. On the busiest match days, with up to 50,000 fans converging on a single site, entry held up without the queues and bottlenecks a crowd that size can create. Online, the platform absorbed the same pressure, taking heavy website traffic every time a new round of places was released and running the full month with zero downtime.
